I'm excited to share that I started a new role earlier this year as the Director of Technology at the Office of Head Start, joining a passionate group committed to investing in young children and their families.
Head Start has been breaking cycles of poverty and supporting human services for almost six decades. As someone who benefited from similar services as a kid (getting me to a professional and personal place that I think is a good one!) and who started their career on the ground in education through AmeriCorps, I'm thrilled to come full circle to give back and support low-income children and their futures.
Through digital service modernization, I believe we can take Head Start's already amazing holistic approaches to education, health, and family well-being to even greater heights. I'm honored to contribute, even in a small way, to the growth and development of this incredible organization.
It’s Teacher Appreciation Day! Thank you to Kim Robinson, my high school European History teacher, for fostering my passion for government services, encouraging me to pursue educational and professional endeavors that I was too scared to do, and modeling what it looks like to be a good person for others.
I went to a school that didn’t have Model UN or debate or any of the traditional academic clubs that I realized other high schools provided, once I went to college. Mrs. Robinson saw that some of her students were interested in political science, and found programs like the Middleburry Institute’s (formerly Monterey Institute’) nuclear nonproliferation program with other Californian and Russian high schoolers (it was a different time) and Academic WorldQuest for us to participate in. My classmates and I had exposure to experiences we never would have gotten if we didn’t have teachers who cared.
And now, my career has been a fun and meaningful trajectory so far: I studied international relations and technology in undergraduate, started my career on the ground in non-profits, particularly in education, and shifted into product management and strategy for civic services. I wouldn’t be where I am without her, and I hope I continue to make her and my other teachers proud!
