John Wiseman

John Wiseman is currently a Professorial Research Fellow at the Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute and Energy Transition Research Hub at the University of Melbourne. He holds various other roles such as Research Associate at the Centre for Climate Economics and Policy at the Australian National University, Adjunct Professor at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, University of Melbourne, Research Fellow at the Centre for Policy Development, and Climate Change Policy Adviser at Sustainability Victoria.

His primary focus is on accelerating the transition to a just and resilient post-carbon society. His expertise lies in climate change risk and resilience, climate change health impacts and co-benefits, post-carbon economy, just transition, coal phase-out strategies and policies, and developing alternative social imaginaries and scenarios.

John is skilled in designing and facilitating policy dialogues and consultations, chairing and moderating high-level policy roundtables and conferences, leading collaborative cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary policy and research projects, and delivering postgraduate teaching and research training programs.

In the past, he has held positions such as Deputy Director at the Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute, Chair of the Organising Committee at the 2017 Eco-City World Congress, Foundation Director of the McCaughey Centre for the Promotion of Mental Health and Community Wellbeing at the Melbourne School of Population Health, Professor of Public Policy at Victoria University, Assistant Director of Policy Development and Research at the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet, and Moderator at the Cranlana Program for Ethical Leadership.
