Have you ever been invited to a meeting and had no clue what it was going to be about until you actually joined it? Some individuals seem to think that wasting the time of one person is not sufficient, so they invite multiple people "just in case they are needed." And who needs an agenda when all the talking points are safely stored in your head?
Having an agenda or at least a detailed description has so many benefits: -Knowing the agenda upfront, I can prepare for the meeting ahead of time -If I can answer all the questions from the agenda with a message - congratulations, we just saved everyone's time by not having a meeting! -An agenda gives the meeting a purpose -I can see if I'm even needed in that meeting.
When planning a meeting, let everyone prepare by outlining a clear agenda for the meeting. PS - Don't just invite people because you want to make them feel included or for optics. Lastly, meetings don't have to follow the rule of 30-mins or 1-hour. Do more with less and consider a 15-minute meeting sans chatting
