Jonathan Jay is an assistant professor at Boston University School of Public Health, specializing in urban health with a focus on gun violence involving children. He combines data science and community health to study the relationship between the built environment and health risks. Jon leads the Shape-Up project, utilizing analytics to assist cities in reducing firearm violence through environmental enhancements. His work has earned recognition, including winning the $100k Everytown for Gun Safety Prize and being a 2019 Solver with MIT Solve. Prior to his current role, Dr. Jay was a research fellow for the Firearm-Safety Among Children and Teens (FACTS) Consortium at the University of Michigan School of Public Health and the Computational Epidemiology Group at Boston Children's Hospital. Additionally, he offers consultancy services on public health and safety, having worked with Portland (OR) Fire & Rescue.
