What happens when you flip a $100k+ entrepreneurship Prize upside down!?
People keep asking me: When are you guys giving out the Anzisha Prize again? Did it stop during COVID or something?
In a word, yes - the Anzisha Prize has not been awarded since 2020. But it has nothing to do with COVID. In our first 10 years we proved that younger entrepreneurs capable of creating jobs are out there. We gave out significant cash prizes recognizing young African's under 22-years old who had started and thrived without much help. We celebrated these stories in the media hoping to inspire others to follow in their footsteps. We felt good about the impact we were having...but not quite good enough.
Big questions emerged that now guide our work at Anzisha: We know they are out there and how to find them, but what are the best ways to support them? Is there an alternative model of education that can support them while working in their business, rather than taking them out of it? Is there a different way of providing grant capital that incentivizes learning and venture performance?
In a few hours, Episode ONE of The Journey will drop on YouTube. Over the coming weeks through 4 episodes, you will get to know the Anzisha Fellows we selected in 2021. Over the past two years, supported through a new hybrid business school approach, they've been hard at work growing their ventures in ways that try to create jobs for other young people. They were also the first beneficiaries of a new conditional cash-release model that ensured every fellow received funding in a way that encouraged them to learn, lead and grow.
On 10 August 2023, we will again crown Anzisha Prize winners - but this time, we will be celebrating young entrepreneurs who were not only brave enough to start a venture on their own, but humble enough to seek support and leverage it.
Welcome to the new Anzisha! Episode 1 of the Journey goes live at 7pm, CAT. https://lnkd.in/ddNmfS3w
If you'd like to meet them in person, it's not too late to register for the Africa Entrepreneurship Education Summit in Johannesburg. All the fellows (and lots of other interesting people!) will be there! Register here: https://lnkd.in/eMkgmf4Y
