Ask any child what they want to be when they grow up, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who responds, “a grief therapist and educator.”

But this surprising path I’ve been on for the past four years has paved the way to meaningful connections with wonderful people—including the phenomenal Lisa Keefauver, MSW, who I had the pleasure of being in conversation with at Boswell Book Company in Milwaukee this week, in celebration of her new book, Grief is a Sneaky B*itch.

It’s hard to put into words what this event meant to me or the feeling I had while looking out at the 75 people who chose to spend their Monday evening with us.

This summer has been abounding in work experiences with Meghan Riordan Jarvis, MA LICSW that I could’ve never imagined, and I’m so appreciative of each and every one. But other than my 1:1 client sessions, the work I do happens outside of Wisconsin. So being able to connect with people in my beloved chosen home of Milwaukee—people who took the risk of sitting in a room filled with grief talk—was truly special.

The crowd contained a handful of familiar faces, for whose support I am extremely grateful, and mostly new to me faces, whose vulnerability in facing whatever memories and feelings our conversation elicited blew me away.

So here I am—

In a town I would’ve never believed I’d live in, that I’ve adored since the moment I visited and fall more in love with every year.

In a job that I feel so honored and privileged to have, that continues to be more rewarding every day.

And, although it’s not exactly the career I imagined when my elementary school self dreamed of following in the footsteps of 20/20’s Barbara Walters, being behind the microphone this week felt not too far off ;)

Milwaukee area friends!

Please join me at Boswell Books on Monday, July 29th at 6:30pm where I'll be in conversation with Lisa Keefauver, MSW, talking about her bestselling new book, Grief is a Sneaky B*tch.

A grief activist, social worker, podcaster, speaker, and widow, Lisa is a treasure trove of knowledge and insight, and she is also an absolute delight.

I'm pinching myself that I get to be part of an event at the very best bookstore in town, and I would so love to see you there! 💙 Link to register for the free event below.
