Highlights
Next week I go back to work. I've met with the team and I know I'm going to be surrounded by awesome people and doing cool stuff, and I'm super excited for it!
(Don't worry, Diverse Dollar is still being built, just outside of my 9-5. You don't stop building what's in your heart. More on that later...)
In the past, whenever I started a new role, I would obsess over getting my hands on anything and everything so that on day one I can hit the ground running. This time, I've dedicated my pre-work time to the following:
- Researching and hiring a cleaning service
- Getting trials for different meal prep services
- Trying a homework help service for the kids
- Resting and blocking out future weekends for rest
Why?
-Because while I'm still ambitious, I'm much more realistic about the energy it takes to run a household with two kids while working full-time -Because my mom is early stage dementia from long-covid complications and she needs me to be OK to care for her -Because for me, family is everything, and I want to be present with them, not just cleaning, cooking and stressing -Because I want to thrive in my new role and to do that, I need to ensure my cup is full first
It's taken me over 10 years and losing my hero to understand this, but I'm a big believer in better late than never.

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending Luminary's #inthistogether Tour at the JPMorgan Chase & Co. Crenshaw Community Center. The agenda was jam packed with engaging & informative presentations and the energy from the attendees was amazing.
I want to take a sec to call out the powerful and clearly fabulous women working at the Crenshaw Community Center. Lisa Stevens (left) and Tatiana Roberts (right) as well as Ola Wadibia (not pictured but also very fabulous).
Lisa and Ola each spoke about their dads journeys and Tatiana about her mom's entrepreneurship, and the grit and tenacity that generation showed them in persevering when the cards seem stacked against them. It inspired all of them to want to succeed, yes, but also pave the way for others in their community to succeed as well. I applaud their commitment to making a change and thank them because they are doing the work and actually moving the needle in empowering black and brown businesses and inspiring women (like me) to do the same. This is the representation I need to see to know it's possible!
Thank you ladies for sharing your stories, doing all you do and inspiring us all! Also, thank you to JPMorgan Chase & Co. for sponsoring my fellowship so I could be a part of this and for making the space for such an in # #credible team. Of course, big thanks to Cate Luzio and Luminary coming out to LA and making all of this possible.
