Karl Johannes Zarhuber is a dedicated professional with a strong background in humanitarian education and youth development.

Currently serving as a Global Coordinator for the Humanitarian Education Initiative with the IFRC Education Team Geneva, Karl brings rich experience from his previous roles.

Prior to his current position, Karl worked at the University for Teacher Education in Lower Austria focusing on programs related to migration.

During his tenure at IFRC, he served as a Senior Advisor for Youth Action, coordinating the development of youth programs and volunteering initiatives.

With over 15 years of experience as the Secretary General of the Austrian Youth Red Cross, Karl managed diverse programs and projects for children and young people, aligning with the Red Cross principles and humanitarian law.

Karl J. Zarhuber played a pivotal role in organizing the '1st RCRC Global Youth Conference' and establishing partnerships with various organizations like ICRC, IOC, Special Olympics, and more to enhance youth engagement in humanitarian activities.

His initiatives at the Red Cross and Red Crescent International Conference led to the creation of the Humanitarian Education Platform, showcasing his commitment to innovation and collaboration in the humanitarian sector.

Karl pursued his education in Philosophy, German Language and Literature, as well as Theology at Universität Salzburg.

His professional journey also includes teaching German Language and (Catholic) Religion at a private school in the Federal State of Salzburg.
