Time and again I hear talented people tell me it has all been fluke and pretty soon they are going to be found out as a fake. This fear intensifies when they have to engage in internal selection processes and a vicious circle of unhelpful self-talk combined with pressure to perform leads to weeks of heightened stress and anxiety.

Learning this cycle and spotting unhelpful narratives is a key part of my Merit Interview Success program.

Help your talented people enjoy and thrive in your internal merit based selection processes.

Working one on one, and in small groups, I embed models and frameworks for merit interview success. These include answering interview questions, targeted interview preparation, harnessing interview anxiety, presenting points of differentiation, using behavioural insights to start and end interviews, identifying the core needs of panel members, and doing practice with targeted, contextual interview questions.

Key traits of high performers are that they often bring humility, a focus on ‘we’ rather than ‘I’, high EQ, and ultraism - traits foundational to their success. Yet many of these factors make them reluctant to compete in high stakes selection processes. As a consequence, they over rely on letting their performance speak for them and don’t embrace the steps necessary to be successful in selection processes.

This reluctance to put themselves forward leaves more space for narcissistic, politically savvy, self-focused individuals to advance.

Your talented, emotionally intelligent, high performers often need encouragement to step into the fray and see the additional value they can add. Support them by giving them the core skills to enjoy and thrive in your internal merit based selection processes.

Through my own journey I have trod this path of reluctance and struggled to let others know what I can offer. This self-knowledge paired with research insights is baked into my one on one and small group experiences that support high performers have merit interview success. The models and frameworks I share bridge the gap between knowledge and action enhancing skills in answering interview questions, doing targeted interview preparation, harnessing interview anxiety, presenting points of differentiation, using behavioural insights to start and end interviews, identifying the core needs of panel members, and doing practice with specific, contextual interview questions.
