Kathy F. Rocha is a dedicated professional whose career is marked by a strong commitment to higher education, entrepreneurship, and innovation. With a wealth of experience in leadership positions at major technology companies, Kathy has also made impactful contributions in mentoring startups and small businesses. Currently, Kathy serves as the Operations Director for the Peter J. Werth Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Connecticut (UConn). The institute plays a crucial role in fostering a cultural shift towards innovative thinking and entrepreneurial activity among students, faculty, and programs at UConn. In her capacity as Operations Director, Kathy leads the Evaluation Board, providing critical recommendations for the UConn Innovation Fund's investments in startups linked to the University. This blend of higher education and entrepreneurial support showcases her dedication to nurturing emergent talent and fostering a dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem within the academic environment.
Prior to her current role, Kathy achieved significant milestones during her tenure at Cisco Systems, where she held the esteemed position of Vice President of Business Strategy and Operations for the Network Management Technology Group. In this role, she successfully led a globally distributed team in supporting research and development (R&D) as well as product management. Kathy’s leadership was instrumental in streamlining operations, resulting in enhanced efficiency within the organization. Notably, she championed Cisco-wide initiatives aimed at promoting diversity and ensuring that recent college graduates were seamlessly integrated into the company's culture and operations.
Before her tenure at Cisco, Kathy held prestigious roles at 3Com Corporation, where she served as Vice President and General Manager for various divisions, including Commercial Networking Products, Small Business, and Network Management. Her responsibilities included oversight of profit and loss (P&L) and leadership of global teams encompassing product management, marketing, and engineering. Her career journey also includes influential leadership positions at Bytex Corporation and Raytheon Data Systems, where she honed her skills and further demonstrated her capacity for strategic leadership and innovation.
Kathy's educational background includes a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with a focus on General Business from Providence College, paired with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science from the same institution. This academic foundation laid the groundwork for her exceptional career and her ability to navigate the complexities of both technology and business environments.
Beyond her professional roles, Kathy is deeply committed to community service. She is an active board member of Day Kimball Hospital, a regional medical facility located in Putnam, Connecticut, where she contributes her expertise to enhance healthcare services within the community. Additionally, Kathy is a founding member of Pulpit Rock Investors, demonstrating her commitment to fostering innovative entrepreneurial ventures, and a trustee of the KeepSmilin4Abbie Foundation, an organization dedicated to preventing anaphylaxis.
