Highlights
One of the highlights of my visit to the Netherlands was a tour of Leiden with Willem den Hertog. He graciously showed me around his alma mater Leiden University (founded in 1575 -- almost unimaginably historic for us Americans!) and pointed out some spots around the town. A couple of drinks and bitterballen in view of a Dutch windmill were a real treat. We had seen each other numerous times on bar association video meetings but nothing replaces the value and enjoyment of an in-person visit.
Many thanks to Wouter Kros for taking time to chat with me at his beautiful Amsterdam office of AKD last week! I appreciated the opportunity to learn more from him about Dutch law and legal practice. Thank you to Vincent de Bruijn for taking time to chat as well.
As a US litigator with experience in cross-border litigation, I always enjoy the opportunity to build connections across jurisdictions. The differences between our legal systems can inform our understanding of what's possible and where we can find chances for innovation.
Shout out to the American Bar Association International Law Section for giving us a chance to meet at the annual conference last May!
