Katie Matlack

Associate Professor, Richard W. Kritzer Faculty Scholar, Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Katie Matlack is a highly accomplished researcher with expertise in acoustics and mechanics of materials. Her work focuses on designing specialized materials for passive control of acoustic and elastic information, and developing advanced sensing systems for cutting-edge wave imaging applications.

She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering, a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Katie has served in various academic roles including as an Associate Professor and Richard W. Kritzer Faculty Scholar at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the same university, and as an ETH Postdoctoral Fellow at ETH Zurich.

Her academic journey includes roles as a Teaching Practicum Assistant, NSF Graduate Research Fellow, and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Katie also gained research and consulting experience as an intern at Acentech.

With a diverse background and strong research contributions in nonlinear ultrasonic imaging, elastic metamaterial design, vibration absorption, and elastic cloaking, Katie Matlack is a respected figure in the field of acoustics and mechanics of materials.
