Highlights
After a wonderful season (and privilege) of exploring my interests through design research with Cities Reimagined and strategy implementation at BasBlue, I’m delighted to join Song United, the Song family office, as the Director of Strategic Initiatives.
Last month, 140 of Michigan’s leaders across government, philanthropy, non-profits, funders, and most importantly, founders gathered to collectively dream up what centering innovation in this state means. I’m excited to continue this effort and more alongside some of the best dreamers and do-ers. Thank you Dug Song, Linh S., Khalilah Burt Gaston, Trista V., Lamar Weir M.Ed., and Lee Pennington for trusting me in this work. And a huge thank you to Cris Landa who made the initial connection.
As always, I’m keen to listen and learn from those who’ve come before me. Let’s go!
PS: Over the past decade, I’ve experienced company layoffs 5 times (oops, startups!) and have had an extremely nonlinear path. If I can be of service to anyone, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Here’s to a place I never thought I’d call home and its future!
⭐ I was laid off from On Deck yesterday. Over the past year and a half, I launched On Deck Community Builders with Laís de Oliveira, provided scholarships to nearly 1,000 Fellows alongside Nate Snow, and designed products from zero to one with Lorenzo Castro and María Jimena Sánchez Ravanales. Truly first-class teams.
⭐ The core strength of On Deck has always been its people. If you’d like to access the list coming soon of my fellow departing colleagues, please fill out the form I'll drop in the comments. Every single person I had the opportunity to work alongside cared about their work and making the world a better place. High integrity, high grit. Please hire!
⭐ As for me, I am reflecting on 7 years in the startup world. I moved to Detroit bright-eyed and had the chance to launch e-commerce furniture campaigns, try to reimagine what the rental housing market looks like, invest in dozens of mobility companies, and build global communities. Now, I’m preparing for my biggest job yet: being a great partner in marriage starting in October :)
⭐ Until then, I’ll be taking a period of rest as I intentionally look for the next thing. If you’ve got near-term projects or opportunities in the social impact, climate tech, civic tech, or generally just “trying to make a difference” spaces, please drop your name in the comments! I’d love to connect. Until then, wishing you all joy and rest.
