Stop wasting time at so many events!

When I first got started in major gifts, I used to attend events all the time.

There's always events going on in the community especially other organizations' fundraising events.

I used to attend these to hopefully meet amazing major gift prospects or see people I'd been trying to get in front of.

Now, I'm not saying we should never go to events like this, but if we understood how to schedule visits effectively, we'd realize the opportunity cost of going to one of these events.

It's not uncommon for a fundraising event to take 3 hours. If you add 30 minutes of commute time each way, you've now invested 4 hours of a day.

Imagine if you scheduled visits for 4 hours with donors IN YOUR DATABASE.

If it takes you 5 minutes per attempt (which is super slow) you could make 48 attempts in 4 hours.

You're going to get more visits from learning how to schedule visits and doing it consistently than you will from showing up at events all the time.

Again, it's fine to go to one here and there especially if it's for some other reason, but don't use them as a crutch for not having the confidence to pick up the phone!
