Khalif Rainey

City of Milwaukee Alderman

Khalif J. Rainey was the Alderman for Milwaukee's 7th District until recently. He served in this role since 2016.1 Prior to his position as Alderman, Rainey was a county supervisor for Milwaukee County's 2nd district.2

As of May 2024, Rainey has been appointed by Mayor Cavalier Johnson to lead the Office of African American Affairs (OAAA) in Milwaukee.4 This is particularly significant as Rainey was instrumental in founding this office during his time as Alderman.4

In his role as Alderman, Rainey was involved in various initiatives, including:

  • Advocating for the renaming of N. 24th Street to honor Dr. Lester Carter, a noted Black pharmacist3
  • Supporting the renaming of Cawker Park to Al Jarreau Park, recognizing the Milwaukee jazz legend3
  • Organizing Hip-Hop Week MKE, an annual event in the city3

Rainey decided not to run for reelection as Alderman in December 2023, paving the way for his new role with the OAAA.3
