What happens when we can no longer trust a photograph?
The Verge sound the klaxon on the cultural implications of Google Pixel 9…
“No one on Earth today has ever lived in a world where photographs were not the linchpin of social consensus — for as long as any of us has been here, photographs proved something happened. Consider all the ways in which the assumed veracity of a photograph has, previously, validated the truth of your experiences. The preexisting ding in the fender of your rental car. The leak in your ceiling. The arrival of a package. An actual, non-AI-generated cockroach in your takeout. When wildfires encroach upon your residential neighborhood, how do you communicate to friends and acquaintances the thickness of the smoke outside?”
⚡️Some special news…I’ve got a book deal!
I’ve always been obsessed with the art and science of stories.
How they create the operating system for our beliefs and behaviours.
How changing our stories changes everything.
That’s what this book is about - a quest to rediscover Lost Goddesses of Britain.
And Penguin Random House are going to publish it 🤯
Melding myth and memoir, it will reanimate the spirit of a Britain long lost. It will recentre female power in away that’s restorative, and important. And, I hope, it will change our relationship with nature, and with ourselves, for the better.
Penguin’s Doubleday imprint is a total dream of a home for this work. They publish a boutique list of transformative storytellers — Terry Pratchett, Bill Bryson, Kate Atkinson, Clover Stroud. It’s pretty wild company, and it’s frankly an honour that my book will be somewhere near them.
Coming out sometime in 2026.
Book writing is a trip, and I love it. If any part of you wants to write a book, I can’t stress enough how you should really just get on with it.
With huge thanks to the work of my brilliant agent Emma Parry at Janklow & Nesbit New York, and Joanna Hunter for that email. You’re wonderful.
