Laavanya Kathiravelu

Researcher of migration, citizenship and cities in Southeast Asia and the Persian Gulf

Dr. Laavanya Kathiravelu is a renowned scholar with a strong educational background in Sociology, Cultural Studies, and Anthropology.

She completed her PhD in Sociology, Cultural Studies, and Anthropology at Macquarie University, her Masters in Sociology and Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and her Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) in Sociology at National University of Singapore.

Dr. Kathiravelu has held various prominent positions in academia, including her current role as an Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University.

Her past experiences include being a Visiting Scholar at St Edmund's College, Cambridge, a Research Fellow at Princeton University and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity, and a Research Affiliate at the National University of Singapore.

She has also shared her expertise as a Tutor, guest lecturer, and Adjunct faculty at multiple esteemed institutions like Macquarie University, American University in Dubai, University of Sydney, SIM, and Asia Research Institute at the National University of Singapore.
