🌋THE GREAT ACCELERATION🌋

In general the 1950s are always a yardstick for when climate change indicator curves start really accelerating. It’s when ‘we’ hit the gas so to speak burning fossil fuels—coal, oil and gas.

See below, 🧯yikes!

You’ll observe the precipitation curve I made in my previous post starts to shoot upwards from the 1950s. 🌧️🌧️🌧️🚀

If you know me you know I like making charts…🌫️ BUT serious question did you know (or remember..) that plain old boring water vapour is a greenhouse gas?

Due to more crazy flash floods in my area this year I wanted to know what’s going on. So I plotted the average global annual precipitation data 1901-2021 from the EPA in pretty pink 💖🌧️ but it’s a killer in disguise.

Warming of the oceans is causing more evaporation—which means..

Pretty simple to follow:

more global warming -> warmer oceans -> more evaporation -> more water vapour -> more greenhouse effect -> more global warming -> repeat loop -> acceleration of warming

HELP 🛟👋 is this additional acceleration taken into account in the IPCC carbon budget model for 1.5 degrees?

Either way let’s get a move on people—growing up as a young Aussie hitting the surf, the first lesson you learn is ‘never turn your back on the ocean’ 🌊
