This guy made me cry.

Kenny’s been following me for a while on LinkedIn and today we finally had a chance to meet at The Hustle Society – Detroit, led by my fabulous clients Johnny and Tessa.

We were supposed to grab virtual coffee about a month ago, but it didn’t end up happening.

See… Kenny “no showed” to our virtual coffee (he’s publicly shared this story, so I feel okay repeating it).

I have very few “no shows” but I have a policy of not rescheduling them, unless it’s an emergency.

My time is valuable — and so is yours.

I let Kenny down and we agreed to say hello should our paths cross.

And cross they did, this morning.

I gave him a big hug when I saw him and he was very apologetic about our mishap. No hard feelings at all, on my part.

“Did you get my gift?” He asked.

“No…”

See, I’ve spoken before about my belief that if you have an oopsie moment like this, a great way to salvage the relationship is to offer a token of your appreciation for someone’s time. A Starbucks gift card is a great step in the right direction.

Not only did Kenny understand the assignment, he did one better.

We went to the front desk of my coworking space and I was presented a package that had been waiting for me — a box of DnD dice.

“I know how much you’ve been into DnD and I found these in your brand colors.”

The note attached read, “Rolls 20 for a saving throw… ”

…which in game speak means, “I’m giving it my best shot.” 🥹

I cried reading this note.

This gift was so thoughtful and the message so kind, it blew me away.

We talked for awhile and agreed to have a redo of our virtual coffee later this year.

I’m usually in the position of teaching, but today, Kenny taught me a masterclass in relationship building.

I can’t wait to get to know him better.

"I finally did the work that I wanted to with Elevate."

My absolute favorite quote of the day, from a brilliant consultant who went from a wide open calendar to booked solid with bigger contracts in 3 months.

(... and a plan to hit $200,000 a year with just 2 clients a quarter).

It takes a lot of bravery to face our fears and DO THE WORK.

Please join me in giving her a huge round of applause! 👏 👏 👏
