Yesterday, I went to a live Austin Film Festival "On Story" taping of Writer/Director Kemp Powers talking about his creative process and it was... so great. I used to go to so many events like this when I was new to screenwriting and I had forgotten how exciting it is to be around writers who love writing and are happy to share sincere advice and stories. A highlight was when he talked about how others saw director traits in him and his writing, which is what led him to become "Writer/Director" and I asked him a question about what some of those traits were. I was beaming as he talked about writing visually, embracing the 'air traffic control' nature of directing, loving the editing process, and having a bigger vision for the work at hand. I've loved my own journey of becoming "Writer/Director", but getting to hear from someone as cool and locked-in as Kemp was an especially motivating treat. Anyway, it continues to be crucial to find the people who open doors instead of close them! Find them! And also be one of them!

Coming to LinkedIn to make a thoughtful, personal post about being a writer and am instead making a post about how LinkedIn now invites us, in the one field where we're meant to write our own words, to use AI to help us write our little personal posts. Y'all. This ain't it. If we can't come to a collective agreement about spending a little time choosing our own words carefully when we seek to connect to each other, even on the Dorky Job Website, then I'm at a loss for words that I'd really appreciate being left unsaid.
