Highlights
In this photo, you see a group united by a singular passion: Empowering Canadian entrepreneurs to build global-scale companies right here in Canada.
As members of the inaugural Global Hyper Growth (GHP) cohort, representing eight high-growth Canadian companies, we had the opportunity to engage directly with Federal representatives from diverse departments. Our discussion focused on identifying critical gaps and roadblocks within current policies that affect both public and private Canadian enterprises in today's competitive market. While I won't delve into specifics, we reached consensus on five pivotal areas where government support could most significantly bolster the tech ecosystem:
- Enhancing immigration and financial policies to attract and retain top talent, amidst intense global competition for skilled individuals.
- Supporting Canadian companies with funding programs to accelerate R&D and to keep intellectual property (IP) in Canada.
- Strengthening Canada's capital market through government initiatives, making local funding more accessible and competitive against international investments.
- Implementing policies that prioritize and empower homegrown Canadian companies, ensuring they can thrive and succeed even in local markets.
- Aligning government processes and programs with the dynamic pace and cadence of the private sector, which moves rapidly and innovatively.
We recognize that change is a gradual process and don't expect immediate implementation of our feedback. However, we are immensely grateful for the chance to voice our perspectives and for the government's openness to learn and evolve. I am optimistic that by the end of our cohort's journey, our collective insights will contribute significantly to transformative advancements within the Canadian tech ecosystem, fortifying our community's strength and unity.

A special shoutout to JP Chauvet for the warm hospitality at Lightspeed Commerce HQ. For me, every moment spent with the GHP cohort (Adrian Schauer , Darren Anderson , Ohad Arazi , Martin LeBlanc , Mélanie Therrien , Curt Sigfstead), learning about your diverse businesses and visionary plans, has been truly inspiring. The breadth of sectors represented—Healthcare, Legal Tech, SaaS, AI, Ecommerce, Hardware, Agtech, Distribution—speaks volumes about the potential for lasting Canadian companies with a global impact. I've learned a ton from you all and look forward to the next time we get together!
