Luis Mendo is a Spanish illustrator and artist based in Tokyo, Japan. He co-founded Almost Perfect, a creative artist residency in Tokyo, with his wife Yuka Okada in October 2018.12 Almost Perfect is housed in a converted 100-year-old rice shop and serves as a space for artists to stay, create, and exhibit their work.14
Before moving to Japan, Luis worked for over 20 years as an art director and graphic designer in Europe.15 He then transitioned to a career in illustration and has since worked for notable clients such as The New York Times, Apple, Wired, and Uniqlo.2
Luis is known for his versatile illustration style, which he describes as "digital analog," often evoking positivity and capturing moments of serenity.7 His work includes editorial illustrations, advertising projects, and personal series like "The Homestayer," which gained popularity during the pandemic.8
