Recently, I delved into Korn Ferry’s insightful podcast on Ageism, uncovering some compelling insights. In 2020, workers aged 50+ comprised more than a third of the US workforce, with projections indicating that by 2030, on in four US workers will be 55 or older. Despite these figures, a disheartening trend persists: many individuals over 50 find themselves unfairly sidelined, facing layoffs and premature retirements. Shockingly, SHRM reports that nearly 32% of HR professionals acknowledge that age influences decision in the job application process. For those over 50, the challenges are evident: · Securing employment becomes a daunting task. · Retirement is often thrust upon them prematurely. Despite the acknowledged benefits of fostering diversity and inclusivity within teams, ageism remains a persistent blind spot in today’s workforce. Thoughts? Your experiences?
