What are the moments that define us? How do we recall them and how are they altered with time? These were the questions posed by the art installation and exhibition I showcased at the First Presbyterian Church nearly ten years ago. Using photographs as artifacts to make the in situ installation’s artworks of various media, the exhibition provided a unique and individual representation of one body, capturing Sacred Stories that were both religious and spiritual.
As we grow and change, we must acknowledge these Sacred Stories, these defining moments that keep us tied to memories of ecstasy or tragedy. It is through these Images of Significance that we can grasp the possibilities of our futures and move forward, always anticipating what is to come.
This exhibition created a unique space within and throughout the entire church space for the Voices within the First Presbyterian Church congregation to articulate their Sacred Stories and share how they experience the constant flow of change in a pluralistic, secularized world. It is a reminder to stay aware and be in a state of waiting and anticipation, always in Advent.
