I'm looking forward to attending the Blockchain APAC DA List Top 50 this week with Timothy Hui. Always great to see the impact regulatory advocacy puts on emerging markets, and Steve Vallas has been a shining voice in the blockchain space for a long time now.

Delighted to be a part of this very special evening.

Unless you’re in the circles, very few folks know that Melbourne is hosting a special ASEAN Summit March 4-6 and will host the leaders of nine out of 10 ASEAN countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. For many of these leaders, it will be their first time visiting Australia on a diplomatic agenda.

Key theses include business, emerging leaders, climate and clean energy, and maritime cooperation. It would be great to see discussions extended to regional manufacturing capability, technology transfer, immigration & skilled migration, inbound and outbound investment platforms and education.

Australia is celebrating 50 years of being part of ASEAN, some would say our ability to engage with our neighbours to the north has been a lost or wasted opportunity. I’ve written about the importance of the region many times over the years and hope that we, as a nation, continue to build stronger economic and diplomatic ties to the region.

Although the summit has had some publicity, I can’t help but think it’s yet another missed opportunity to have the greater ecosystem engaged and participating on trade and economic discussions.

Nonetheless let’s hope for positive outcomes in challenging political times and let’s hope Australia shows its best face to some of our most important trade partners over the next decade.
