I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Senior Director, Data Science & Analytics at Zillow! #datascience #analytics #zillow

As promised, an update on my whereabouts and the awesome roles I'm hiring for...and some thoughts on the Great Resignation! But first two observations: 1) it is Monday morning and you might be thinking about quitting your job, and 2) I'm going to tell you not to.

I'll cut to the chase: two weeks ago I started on my journey at Zillow, leading an exceptional team of data scientists as Director of Customer Engagement Analytics. It's honestly a dream job. I get to work with smart, talented, and thoughtful people...and we wake up every day trying to solve an incredibly hard problem: use data to make the process of buying/selling/renting a home a joy for our customers.

Yes, I am #hiring. A lot. And the roles are #remote! I've posted a few here and there will be more to come. So why did I start my post telling you not to quit your job? It starts with a song. Any time I consider a big life decision, I listen to the song The Weight of Lies by the Avett Brothers. My favorite line goes like this: "So when you run make sure you run to something, and not away from".

We've all run from things in the past, myself included. You may say, "ANYTHING has to be better than this". And you may be right, but why risk it? So before you quit, here are a few pieces of advice from my own journey that you can feel free to take or ignore! 1) You don't have to leave your job to be happy. Ask yourself "what would I change about my role to make it 10% better?" Then go ask for those things. 2) Look ahead, not behind. If you only focus on what you're leaving, there's no guarantee where you land is going to be any better. Run To Something! 3) Time is more valuable than money. As Warren Buffett said "I can buy anything I want, basically, but I can't buy time". I'm not naive enough to think money isn't a factor - but make it a tiebreaker not a deciding one. Personally, that is why Zillow's leadership in #remotework was such a draw.

With all of that said, I don't believe this time we live in - The Great Resignation - is a permanent state. So while you shouldn't "quit", you should think deeply about where you can do your best work and then go do it. And of course the Avett Brothers come to the rescue again, because once I've made a decision I switch over to Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise and wait for this line: "Decide what to be, and go be it".

If I can help you find your dream job, whether it is at Zillow or elsewhere, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thanks!
