Matt Miller is the founder and inventor of BrakeAce, a company that developed the world's first brake power sensor and analysis platform for mountain biking.12 He has a PhD in Sport & Exercise Science from Massey University, where he focused on quantifying and describing braking during mountain biking.3

Miller's career in cycling began at a young age, working in his family's bike shop at 10 years old.3 He pursued a career as a professional racer before transitioning to academia. He holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Exercise Science from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.3

Before founding BrakeAce in January 2019, Miller worked as a lecturer at Massey University from 2014 to 2019, where he invented and researched bicycle braking patterns.3 He also runs MTB PhD Limited, where he coaches mountain bike athletes and consults with companies in the cycling industry.3

BrakeAce, based in Rotorua, New Zealand, aims to help riders improve their performance through data-driven insights.13 Miller leads a remote engineering team and is involved in all aspects of the business, from product development to customer relations.3

In addition to his work with BrakeAce, Miller co-hosts the Performance Advantage Podcast and has published a book titled "Free Speed".34 He is known in the mountain biking community for his scientific approach to improving rider performance and his efforts to demystify the sport.45
