Seems like these days we’re obsessed with efficiency. But how much more efficient can you be? Is more…better? And more importantly, is more…good for our well-being? How is it that in an increasingly digital and connected world, we find ourselves with the highest rate of loneliness ever? Analog technologies – think physical books, vinyl, letters – are on the rise again, precisely because they’re inefficient. They’re effortful, screenless, and tangible!
On that note (pun intended!), postcards are a novel way to maintain and build connection, have a visual cue to savor, and express your creativity! When was the last time you sent or received a postcard? Can’t remember? I challenge you to try it out and see for yourself! Applied positive psychology demonstrates how even the smallest of positive interventions, like identifying three good things each day or perhaps sending a postcard, can have outsized well-being benefits!
I believe that postcards can be fine-tuned even further to specifically foster well-being by leveraging their art, design, form, and function more intentionally. Want to see the research and some examples? My full capstone is published here: http://bit.ly/46V6V30.
❤️🔥⚡ Extreme Joy. Grateful. Proud. Inspired. Zesty? 🎓 Last weekend, I graduated from University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Applied Positive Psychology. Positive psychology is the scientific study of well-being and what makes life worth living. The application of positive psychology supports individuals in cultivating a more fulfilling and meaningful life, while contributing to a more thriving and compassionate world. 🙏 Thank you to my incredible friends, classmates, and teaching staff! You active constructive responded me all the way to the finish line and I can’t wait to see what’s next. 🤔 What’s the major take away? “My experience is what I agree to attend to.” – William James 👀 ATTENTION: Who and what do you give your attention to? Have you given your time and energy to thinking about your (and others’) strengths instead of weaknesses? About the specific sources of your own well-being? 🏃♂️ INTENTION: What’s your intention? Do you deliberately do more of the things that make you happy and bring energy – both when you’re feeling great and not so good? 🔜 What’s next? Continuing to think about how technology/AI can help organizations flourish and how benefits can lead from the front. But first, taking a short break to write my Capstone about the opposite – how returning to analog “technology” like postcard sending and more specifically, the art on it, can foster individual well-being. 😎For now, I’m coddiwompling! Look it up and let’s chat 😉
