Highlights
Yesterday I sat down to build a pretty challenging workflow for a client. The challenge wasn't each individual step, but the fact that it was going to be hard to very quickly sketch out the entire workflow. The size of it felt daunting. 🫠
With most low-code or no-code platforms, you'd reach for a separate tool, like a Miro whiteboard or Zapier's Canvas product. This is a strong option because you get that big picture feel ... but the downside is you still have to "re-build" those workflows in the actual builder once you're done sketching.
With Summit, I was able to take a different approach. I started with a text editor (!) where, like the rough draft of an email, I was able to scribble out notes to myself, write comments ... and then slowly fill in the actual code! No "re-building" required. Instead, a straight line from that rough, high-level draft to a working prototype.
How is this possible? Because Summit models are text files at their foundation, so I was able to import the rough draft (text file) once it had the shape I was looking for. I only used the canvas to run it and fill in all of the details. 🎨
Using a text editor as a no-coder feels heretical. But the goal of no-code isn't to avoid writing text (ask anyone that's filled in countless forms); the goal is to be as productive as possible as quickly as possible — while skipping all of the low-leverage busywork that traditional coders have to wrestle with. 🏋️♂️
This approach of text-and-canvas also creates a window between coders and no-coders where two aren't just compatible, they are collaborative. 🤝
Oh the places we're going ...
A big part of my job as a founder is keeping an eye out for product partners for Summit where an integrated offering moves the needle for both of our customer bases. 👀
Easier said than done! Which is why I'm thrilled to share that after a few months of conversations and tinkering, Andrew Claremont and I are teaming up on Monday to present the combined power of Glide and Summit. ⚡️
If you're interested in shipping actions in Glide that call out to data transformations like the one in this screenshot, please RSVP (link in comments)! I'd love to see and hear from you there! 🫶
