Highlights
We haven't always done the greatest job of self promotion at Elysian Park Ventures. This has partially been by design (we are self-aware of how people feel about venture capitalists with a megaphone) and partially because we haven't always prioritized it enough.
Recently, however, Elysian Park launched a new website with the help of our friends at Robin. At the bottom of our Team page, you will find a description of Elysian Park's ethos -- or what we like to call our "North Star." These words, written by our Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Cole Van Nice, represent a glimpse into our approach to sports investing and why we love working in this arena. Please give it a read below and let us know if it resonates as strongly with you as it does with us.
Check out the website to read more about Elysian Park's projects and the disruptive portfolio companies that are transforming the landscape (most importantly!).
Our North Star.
There is no place on earth untouched by the power of sports.
It doesn’t matter your age, race, gender, income, politics, or faith. It doesn’t matter where you live. Sports are a timeless, fundamental part of humanity. And these days more than ever, sports are also one of those very few things that can unite people, whether on the sidelines of a six-year-old soccer game on a Saturday morning or in the stands of a major league ballpark under the lights.
For our team at Elysian Park, this makes for an incredibly interesting place to invest. Importantly, we don’t just mean investing in professional sports teams, although our ownership group has certainly been dedicated to this pursuit as well, serving now as custodians of some of the world’s greatest franchises, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chelsea FC, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Sparks, and the Golden State Warriors. We also mean investing in the handful of massive global markets that sports intersect with — markets like health, culture, commerce, and technology.
These intersection points — what we call Sports+ — are where the magic happens. These are the places where sports can be additive to major markets in meaningful ways, where sports can unlock more influence, engagement, value, and scale. These are the places where sports enrich lives.
With that North Star, we invest globally at the youth, high school, college, and professional levels. We partner with entrepreneurs to build solutions to real problems facing fans, athletes, teams, leagues, and the broader business ecosystem. Domain-focused, thesis-driven, and stage-agnostic, we bring perspective, relationships, capital, and strategic resources to our areas of focus. We then channel those advantages into every investment we make – at any stage, in any location, around the world."
