Highlights
Being indispensable in media is a myth. I can't even remember how many Pulitzer winners I've seen lose their jobs or struggle to get raises in line with cost of living increases.
But 10 years after my first media layoff, I'm in awe of the opportunities the closing of that door has allowed me to pursue. At this moment, I'm a freelance travel writer posting a link to this piece I wrote for the Lenfest Institute for Journalism from Antarctica. Some days, my life feels like the dream I never expected to come true.
