Megan Nunez

Dean of Faculty Affairs at Wellesley College

Megan Nunez is a chemical biologist who delves into biological inquiries through a molecular lens, focusing on the convergence of chemistry, biology, and physics.

Her research group primarily investigates DNA damage, the initial stage in mutagenesis and cancer, utilizing various techniques like gel electrophoresis, HPLC, NMR spectroscopy, and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM).

Apart from DNA studies, Megan is intrigued by bacterial communication and environmental sensing within biofilms, employing methods such as atomic force microscopy and microfluidics.

With a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from Smith College, she currently serves as the Dean of Faculty Affairs at Wellesley College.

Having held prestigious positions like Nan Walsh Schow '54 and Howard B. Schow Professor and Professor of Chemistry at Wellesley College, Megan mentors undergraduate scientists and supervises a research team inclusive of undergraduate women, technicians, and postdocs.

Her academic journey includes roles such as Associate Professor of Chemistry at Mount Holyoke College and Irvine Postdoctoral Scholar at Occidental College.
