Michael Skelly

Founder @ Stacker

Michael Skelly is the CEO and co-founder of Stacker, a technology company that focuses on empowering businesses to create custom software applications without needing extensive coding skills. Founded in 2019, Stacker aims to democratize software development by allowing users to build applications quickly using their existing data from platforms like Airtable, Google Sheets, and Salesforce.12

Background and Vision

Skelly's vision for Stacker is rooted in the belief that the power of software should be accessible to everyone, not just those who can code. This philosophy drives the company's mission to provide a platform where businesses can develop tools tailored to their specific needs without relying on traditional development teams.1 Under his leadership, Stacker has experienced significant growth, including a $20 million Series A funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz.1

Professional Experience

Before founding Stacker, Skelly worked in IT at a medium-sized company, where he recognized the frustrations many employees had with existing software solutions. This experience inspired him to create a platform that would allow users to design their own software solutions.1 He holds a degree from Imperial College London and has built a strong professional network, as evidenced by his 500+ connections on LinkedIn.3

Current Developments

Recently, Stacker has undergone several updates aimed at enhancing its functionality and user experience. The new version of the platform is designed to serve as a core system for businesses, integrating features such as advanced data modeling and automation capabilities.2 Skelly continues to lead the charge in making custom software creation accessible to all business teams, ensuring they can operate independently of traditional coding constraints.2

People often end up in this weird state of being trapped by their shitty software.

Off-the-shelf solutions force them to change how they work, or they’re stuck with manual, error-prone workarounds.

The off-the-shelf solutions become a kind of weird local maximum – the software that you bought is usually pretty slick, so even though it doesn't work the way you want it to, it at least does it efficiently! So moving away is tough.

And then people who are using the workarounds end up so much time running the very manual process (copying between emails, spreadsheets etc), that they don't really have time to take a step back and improve their setup.

We built Stacker to be a way out of that. A refuge for the non-developer between the circling sharks of ill-fitting software and the prowling wolves of painful workaround.

It's pretty great!

People use inefficient spreadsheets because the software they need doesn’t exist. They’re stuck with either reverting to email and spreadsheets or forcing their processes into generic software.

We built Stacker to solve this. Now, if you can build a spreadsheet, you can build software that fits your processes perfectly.

No more inefficiency, just streamlined apps and portals.
