Too Many Believers Are Spiritual Pacifists
When the enemy comes in like a flood, God promises to raise up a standard against him if we trust in Him and act upon His Word. But I’ve noticed that too many believers are spiritual pacifists when it comes to standing against the enemy by faith in Christ. Instead of rising up and speaking against circumstances that are contrary to God’s will, they accept them without a fight. But we’re called to resist the devil, to take a stand in the name of Jesus Christ, and to speak life and truth into our situations.
Let me share a personal experience that illustrates this truth.
One night, not too long ago, I found myself in a battle. I was lying in bed, and terrible pain was racking my body. It was an all-night struggle, but I wasn’t about to give in. As I lay there, I fought the fight of faith, speaking the Word of God and praying quietly. I refused to allow fear to take control, even as the pain intensified. Then something alarming happened—my left side and hand went completely numb, and my fingers curled up. The devil whispered in my ear, “You’re having a stroke.”
But I knew better. I immediately jumped out of bed, grabbed my numb left arm with its curled-up fingers, and began to beat it against my right hand. With every strike, I commanded it to be healed in the name of Jesus. I knew this was not God’s will because His Word says, “By His stripes we were healed” (1 Peter 2:24, KJV). I had to rise in the spirit of faith and speak to this circumstance, knowing that God’s Word is true. Now I was not yelling because my wife was a sleep.
After over 49 years of walking with God since my 19th birthday, I’ve learned to recognize what is and isn’t His will. So, after I commanded healing over my arm and hand, I began to thank the Lord as if it was already done. In the natural, nothing had changed—my arm and hand, left side was almost useless and my hand was still numb and curled. But I knew that God cannot lie. I continued to praise Him, trusting in His promise.
Praise the Lord, within a short period of time, my left side, arm and hand were completely restored, and all the pain left my body. This happened back in 2009, and it serves as a reminder that we should never give in to the lies or symptoms the enemy tries to use against us. The minute the devil sticks his ugly head up, we need to cut it off with the Word of God.
