Mike Flanigan is the co-founder and CEO of Seasats, a maritime autonomy company that builds and operates easy-to-use, low-cost autonomous ocean vehicles.12 He grew up in Tiverton, Rhode Island, where he and his friends developed an interest in building autonomous boats.23 Flanigan holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame (2015) and an M.S. in Computer Science and Robotics from the University of Colorado Boulder.13

Flanigan's journey into maritime autonomy began with the Scout Transatlantic project, a garage-based initiative to create an autonomous boat capable of crossing the Atlantic Ocean.12 This project, which took place during his teenage years, laid the foundation for his future career in ocean technology.3

After college, Flanigan worked as an automation consultant and later joined Ocean Aero, another autonomous boat startup.1 In October 2020, he co-founded Seasats with his brother Dan Flanigan, Dylan Rodriguez, and Max Kramers.23 The company has since grown significantly, participating in the Techstars accelerator program in 2021 and receiving a $10 million investment from L3Harris Technologies in 2022.34

Under Flanigan's leadership, Seasats has developed solar-powered autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) that are used for various applications, including scientific research, defense, and commercial purposes.24 The company has experienced rapid growth, with its 2023 revenue reported to be 20 times greater than its 2022 revenue.4

Flanigan's LinkedIn username is mikeflan, and he is based in San Diego, California.5
