About a month ago, #SethMeyers asked #AyoEdebiri what her favourite dessert is, and she answered “it’s something called a 'Cool Dog’”.

Unless you’re from New England, you’d be rightly puzzled - most people have no idea what a Cool Dog even is. Now, after the clip went viral, lots of people have brought the brand back to life trying to learn more.

Well, in 2009, my dad bought the company that made Cool Dogs, and our house in Boston was the hub of the business for years to follow. So, I’m kind of obsessed with them too!

Not only was it an amazing treat (TRUST ME), but it also opened my eyes to entrepreneurship for the very first time: watching my dad build everything from product R&D to marketing and sales.

It was personal: Over the years, my family and friends tasted lots of different ice cream flavours and chocolate sauces, even cakes and toppings, too. We even got to go to Fenway for Red Sox games and hand out samples. Every Boston kid’s dream!

Obviously things were different back then, building a business that would reach virality wasn’t nearly as speedy as it is now. But seeing the outpouring of love and nostalgia for a brand that’s over 10 years old now has shown me it’s still much the same: building a business means putting in the work to build something that people truly love.

We spoke with WBUR about it if you want to hear a bit more. And to Ayo: ice cream on us next time you’re in Boston!

Last night The Fintech Marketing Hub CIC put on a great event that brought together amazing speakers and marketers all in the Fintech space to Rise, created by Barclays

There were so many great speakers and insights to take away. Here were some of my favourite takeaways/reminders:

🤝Resist false dichotomies - ie its not brand vs demand. You need brand goals on demand campaigns and demand goals on brand campaigns.

🫡Friendly reminder for fintechs - your compliance officer should be in the room when you plan your comms and marketing strategy.

🚀 If your co-founder/boss/CFO doesn’t get "brand" try calling it “Longterm growth with great creative” - thanks Jack Cully for that one.

Sometimes this space can feel super niche so it was great to meet so many like-minded people working on similar challenges 🙏
