Highlights
📢 Earlier this year I met the CSO of Starbucks at a BIPOC Sustainability mixer. He made me realize something profound I hadn't considered regarding diversity in our field.
It is a privilege to work on climate, where most individuals first seek basic access to food, water, shelter, before choosing to care for the planet
But it's also clear that we are in a climate crisis, and those most impacted by climate change are from minority backgrounds and the Global South
We need more diversity in thoughts, backgrounds, and experiences of professionals to bring into the climate fight, and I'm excited to explore this with Michael through his sustainability career up until today.
In the room where we met there were only ~40 BIPOC sustainability folk (out of the thousands attending the conference)
I was shocked, but even more so to hear from Michael that there were even less in prior years.
It is clear we need a climate workforce of the future built today that is representative of our diverse cultures & backgrounds
💬 How can we build more diversity into our climate workforce of the future?
Let me know in the comments below.
Regardless, I'm looking forward to sharing back insights and takeaways from the fireside with Michael!

We hosted our annual OnePointFive (opf.degree) team summit this past Friday
This year I wanted to reflect on 4 lessons my team has taught me:
- climate impact is > the sum of its parts with the talent around you, healthy culture you create, and operations you setup
- you achieve more when people are empower to work in their (current &) evolving 'zones of genius' - zones they are intrinsically driven within
- tackling the climate crisis feels less 'doom & gloom' when your working together with others, and belief goes a lot way to manifesting outsized impact
- never take for granted when team members go above and beyond, helping others and initiatives across the org
We're at an exciting growth stage at OPF, and I've already felt my time, role and responsibilities evolving this year
I miss the days where I spent more time with all of my team members, but have amazing leaders around to guide the way
Thanks for everyone who has followed, and supported us over these past 4 bootstrapped years
We're not going anywhere, and we'll be fighting the climate fight as best we can 🙏💜
Shoutout to our team: Matthias, Julia, Denise, Ysabella, Abigail, Shuo, Jack, Kathleen, Victoria, Tedy, Leigh, Akhil, Saskia, Olivia, and dozens of others who make our work possible
