"The takeaway from the data is that a bulk of the tickets are simple enough that they should be self-served - but they make it to the help desk anyways.
This disconnect happens even though employees have many resources at their disposal to self-service: there's ITSM portals, knowledge base articles, request forms, approval workflows, self-service password reset portals, entitled software centers and enough contact types make a lazy employee happy.
It turns out it's not a YOU problem. It's systematic. Employees submit an IT ticket once a month (1.1 times...to be exact). They don't bookmark your portal page, they don't have time to scan the knowledge base and they certainly don't care that their incident is really a request.
They just want help. Like, yesterday. "
AI is an incredible opportunity to automate IT's low-hanging fruit. When I work with organizations to take a look at what the data says, they are shocked to see how many repetitive issues their team is handling.
The opportunity with AI is not to provide a few extra minutes of productivity per employee per month - it's the opportunity to finally eliminate the low-hanging fruit within IT that IT agents hate and employees want automated.
