Nicolas Brault

Nicolas Brault is a Canadian animator, filmmaker, and professor from Quebec. He joined the faculty at Université Laval in 2019 as an Assistant Professor, teaching animation in the film studies program.13 Brault is also the Director of the Bachelor's and Certificate programs in Art and Science of Animation at the university.3

As a filmmaker, Brault has created several acclaimed animated short films, including:

  • Foreign Bodies (2013)

  • Entropic Memory (2024)1

His works have received numerous awards and nominations, including a César Award nomination for Best Animated Film for "The Circus" in 2012.1

Before joining Université Laval, Brault was associated with the National Film Board of Canada and later ran his own independent studio, Nicolas Brault Films.1 He holds a master's degree in film studies from Université de Montréal.2

Brault is currently working on an innovative project called Telekinesium, a brain-computer interface that allows users to manipulate kinetic sculptures with their thoughts.24 This project combines his interests in animation, neuroscience, and interactive art.
