Having been in the world of Executive Search for many (MANY!) years helping innumerable impressive executives advance their careers, I've practically seen it all (seriously!). One thing has remained constant--it doesn't matter if someone’s a seasoned professional or a recent college grad, many make common sense mistakes when interviewing / job searching & those missteps lead to frustrations & disappointing outcomes. In this easy-to-read guide, with a dose of sarcasm & direct approach, I walk professionals through the many ways people frequently shoot themselves in the foot & derail opportunities so as to help them avoid the common pitfalls. Whether actively job searching OR gainfully employed but being recruited into an amazing opportunity, this book will help professionals nail the process. Afterall, the ability to achieve career growth goals should never be undermined by silly mistakes.
It is with profound sadness & grief that I share this awful news… NLP has lost a beloved member of our family and there are no words adequate enough to describe how enormous this truly is on both a personal as well as professional front. Jennifer DeVine lost her valiant battle with cancer on May 25th. To say she will be forever missed by all is an understatement!
Anyone who’s met Jennifer knows she lights up every room she’s in. It’s impossible not to love her. Jennifer’s infectious personality, her smile, her warmth, her thoughtfulness, her loyalty and her laugh brought sheer joy to everyone. And let me add, while incredibly smart, polished and extremely talented, I’d be remiss not to highlight, she’s, hands-down, one of the funniest people you’ve ever met. Her quick wit, phenomenal sarcasm and brilliant timing were the perfect blend. She could magically find humor in everything. Jennifer was incredibly beautiful both inside and out and anyone lucky enough to be her friend knew they could count on her for anything.
On a personal level, Jennifer’s pride and joy was her beautiful family. She and her wonderful husband, Greg, have four amazing children who are her everything. Jennifer selflessly saved her son’s life 15 yrs ago by donating her bone marrow to him. That’s an incredible story in and of itself!
I had the great fortune to have Jennifer join me (NLP) in April 2011. She was my first permanent colleague and was absolutely instrumental in building NLP to the business we are today! EVERY client loved Jennifer! EVERY candidate loved Jennifer! She was truly gifted at her job!! Jennifer was superbly brilliant at understanding each person and every business and I can say without hesitation that the positive impact she made on all the lives she touched are too many to count and will continue to transcend time. After 8 yrs at NLP, Jennifer took her talent acquisition skills and launched her HR generalist career, where she continued to excel. Despite being gone from NLP for a number of years, there are still companies and professionals who consistently bring up her name with fond memories.
I was so fortunate to have Jennifer as a dear friend for 20+ years and equally as lucky to have her as a colleague for 8. Her incredible strength and unwavering courage are a lesson to us all. We will continue to celebrate her legacy and will find numerous ways to honor her memory at NLP. Her contributions are far too many to count and we will never, EVER forget that.
