Nina Gordon is an accomplished musician, singer, and music educator with a rich professional history that spans several decades. Since 1965, Nina has been performing music professionally, showcasing her versatile talent in various musical genres including pop, jazz, country-western, and oldies. Her journey as a performer began with solo guitar performances, and she has since expanded her repertoire to include being part of a Top 40 and club date band from 1981 to 1986, engaging audiences in duo performances of jazz and pop standards from 1985 to the present, and leading a country-western band since 1991. Furthermore, Nina has enchanted young audiences with her children’s concerts and parties from 1987 to 1990 and has delighted fans of 60s and 70s oldies with a dedicated band since 2011.
Alongside her music career, Nina embarked on a path in therapeutic recreation in 1985. She began as a strolling musician before advancing her role to become a Creative Arts Therapist and Events Coordinator at the Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale. Here, she honed her skills in creating engaging programs designed to enrich the lives of seniors. Following her impactful tenure at HHAR, which concluded in October 2007, she took on the role of Engage Life Director at Atria Senior Living, serving at the Atria on Roslyn Harbor for three years. She then transitioned to Atria Cutter Mill in Great Neck, where her commitment to the enrichment of the elderly continued until June 2013. Nina demonstrated her extensive knowledge and passion for senior care in her subsequent role as Program Director of the Port Washington Senior Citizens Center from January to June 2014. Since June 2014, she has dedicated her efforts to performing music while also taking care of her elderly mother.
Education and Achievements
Nina Gordon’s educational journey reflects her passion for creativity and the arts. She pursued studies at Sarah Lawrence College, where she focused on various disciplines including Creative Writing, Philosophy, Musical Performance, Film History and Criticism, and Women's History. This diverse educational background has contributed greatly to her skills as both a musician and an insightful leader in community engagement. Nina also attended Great Neck South Senior High School, laying the groundwork for her future pursuits in music and therapeutic recreation.
In addition to her musical achievements, Nina is a certified leader of several important health programs. She holds certification to lead the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program, is a Conductorcise fitness program instructor, and has completed Stanford University’s Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. Such certifications illustrate Nina's commitment to promoting health and well-being among her clients and audiences. Notably, she trained as a COVID-19 Contact Tracer in May 2020, showcasing her adaptability and willingness to contribute during challenging times.
