Nour Sadat

Nour Sadat is a visionary digital designer with a rich background in human-centered design, cultural studies, and storytelling. As she navigates the confluence of culture, politics, and emotion, she leverages her expertise to create impactful experiences that resonate deeply with diverse audiences. With over a decade of experience in design, Nour is committed to utilizing her skills to advocate for social change and contribute to meaningful dialogues surrounding important socio-political issues.
Nour's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Design and Applied Arts from The German University in Cairo. Subsequently, she pursued a Master of Digital Design, with a focus on Interaction Design at Hogeschool van Amsterdam, part of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Her educational background laid a strong foundation for her future endeavors, empowering her to explore multiple facets of design and its influence on communication and user experience.
Throughout her career, Nour has collaborated with renowned organizations and contributed to innovative projects that emphasize storytelling as a tool for empathy and understanding. One of her notable works includes her time at Philips Design and Rijksmuseum, where she was part of the initiative 'The Invisible Cages,' a toolkit aimed at addressing colonial remnants in Amsterdam and promoting anti-racism. This project exemplifies how Nour uses design strategically to confront pressing societal issues through narratives and visual communication.
At Butterfly Works, Nour took on the role of Experience Designer, focusing on creating educational tools in collaboration with the UNHCR for the Refugee Education 2030 policy. Her two-year engagement with Makers Unite resulted in the development of the Makers Unite Creative Lab, where she facilitated a platform for creative asylum seekers to collaborate on design projects for influential brands like Ben & Jerry's and Amnesty Netherlands. This experience reflects her dedication to leveraging design for social good and advocates for marginalized voices in the design community.
In addition to her professional work, Nour is passionate about enhancing self-expression within socio-political contexts. Her project, Sard, is a visual storytelling initiative aimed at exploring sexual and bodily narratives for Arabic-speaking individuals. This project recently gained traction when it was published on the Goethe Institute’s Jeem platform and won two rounds of funding from MamaCash. Through such projects, Nour demonstrates her commitment to promoting empathy, understanding, and freedom of expression.
Nour's diverse skill set is complemented by her exploration of new creative techniques and mediums, such as riso printing and training AI in creative coding to visualize human emotions. Her ability to merge traditional artistic methods with innovative technology positions her as a forward-thinking designer eager to challenge conventions and push boundaries in the digital design landscape.
