The lean startup model is the enemy of innovation.

"Find a customer's pain and solve it" is a terrific business advice but a poor, nearly catastrophic, framework to think about innovation and technology.

Founders are often (always?) told that their idea will transform and change over time so they should focus on their customer. "Iterate until the customer is happy": a playbook for business and a death sentence to innovation.

Innovators, just like their peers in science, research and art, recognize that their idea, and more importantly-- their obsession with it, is their biggest asset.

To paraphrase to Groucho Marx, the lean startup community encourages founders to say: "These are my ideas. But if you don't like them, I can fetch some other ones". Try telling this to Bohr and Heisenberg who in 1926 were brave enough to question Einstein (!) and lay out the ideas that today serve as the foundation of 21st century physics. Or maybe tell Apple that invented the iPhone 3 -- an invention that changed the world dramatically, introducing an "internet on a stick" -- that their idea for a mobile web is only as good as the number of users who left their contact info on the testing landing page.

Ideas are the most powerful things we can have.

The real information revolution begins now. And it will make everything we saw so far look very insignificant. This is not even day one.

Two of the biggest AI companies in the world (Google & Facebook) are still using data primarily to sell ads. This is not a predictor of the true capabilities of AI, but rather a reminder of how early we are in the revolution.

Technology is not a sector or an industry. It's the evolutionary arrow through which our species moves forward. Inventing the wheel is technology. Discovering fire, too. And data & AI are going to have a similar impact on our lives. Today it's used to sell ads and power recommendation engines, but soon it is going to change the way we live, eat, sleep, drive, meet and above all, work.

Work is above all because it's the most corrupted part of modern life. Most people are unhappy at work. Recruitment is broken. Retention too. 9 to 5 is a horrific concept. "Bosses" belong in video games. Time's up.

We're looking for several data scientists to join our team in Tel Aviv. You'll get to "work" with Dor Ringel, an incredible leader and scientist. And you'll get to build a meaningful technology, with impact far beyond personalized ads. Send a DM if it's relevant, or share with your favorite data scientist (🙏).
