Highlights
Inspiring The Next Generation.
While doing research for my book Why NOT Me? The Female Guide for Entrepreneurship, I've interviewed incredible women who are both moms and #entrepreneurs. Their success is not measured only in #jobcreation and revenue. The positive qualities they are modeling for their children will have a long-term impact on their lives.
Sheila Slick, MS is a fourth generation #entrepreneur and to date, has launched four companies. She recognized the opportunities in technology long before there were apps or smart phones. She taught herself how to code while raising three children and made sure they learned along with her. She used her newfound skills to develop educational #apps to help them do well in school. At one point, she had a dozen apps in the app store.
A lifelong learner, Sheila had always wanted to pursue higher education. Once her children were older, and she was established in her career, she applied for and was accepted into a program. As she explained, that decision has had a ripple effect.
"I’ve always taught my children that you can’t fail if you don’t try. I'm the first person in my family to earn a master's degree. Now, my daughter is in a PhD program. I cracked the glass ceiling but she is breaking it."
What are you most proud of modeling for your children? Please share in the comments.

Are You Following Your Passion?
I've interviewed amazing women doing incredibly meaningful work for my upcoming book Why NOT Me? The Female Guide for Entrepreneurship. For many, becoming an #entrepreneur meant opting out of a traditional career path to follow their passion.
They shared their feelings of guilt when they disappointed their parents. But they also shared the joy they experienced when they listened to their heart and the opportunities that came to them as a result.
I grew up in a very traditional home. The expectation was that I would become a lawyer or a doctor, the only viable options that my #immigrant parents saw as the path to success and financial independence in America. Instead, I chose to follow my #passion for art which eventually led to a degree in Graphic Design and eventually, to founding a profitable, award-winning design and marketing communications firm. I ran my company for 14 years.
