Highlights
The growth of Japanese SaaS companies is accelerating rapidly. Three years ago, only four companies had an ARR exceeding 10 billion yen, but this year that number has increased to ten. This simultaneous growth is clear evidence that Japan's cloud software market is taking off.
Key drivers of this growth include:
1/ The widespread penetration of SaaS among the majority of large enterprises and SMEs in Japan. 2/ Successful execution of multi-product strategies by SaaS vendors. 3/ Enhanced ARPU resulting from strategic pricing adjustments.
Leading SaaS companies are maintaining high growth rates, and further expansion is expected.

📢 Announcement: UB Ventures Releases Japan SaaS Annual Report 23-24
We are thrilled to announce the publication of our third annual SaaS report!
Key insights from the 2023 report include:
-
SaaS startups in Japan raised a total of 134.8 billion yen in 2023, marking a 41% decrease from the previous year.
-
The number of SaaS companies securing funding also declined by 37%, with 247 companies raising funds.
Despite the low valuations of listed SaaS companies causing many investors to exit the SaaS market, the growth of SaaS companies continues to accelerate. The top companies have achieved an Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) of 30 billion yen, and six companies have surpassed an ARR of 20 billion yen.
In Japan, which is facing a rapidly declining population, there is a pressing choice between increasing the working population or enhancing productivity per capita. The expectations for vertical SaaS to improve productivity in legacy industries are higher than ever.
Our report is divided into three sections:
-Overview: A summary of the latest data on the SaaS market. -Vertical SaaS: An analysis of the growth factors driving the vertical SaaS market. -Depopulating Society: A deep dive into the hot topics in a society with a declining population.
