Highlights
Big day tomorrow for Ilya Strebulaev and Alex Dang! "The Venture Mindset" is absolutely a must-read and publicly launches this Tuesday. Highly recommended as it dissects the art of decision-making with learnings applicable to many disciplines outside of venture capital.
The intro chapter was a trip down memory lane for me. It recounts the behind-the-scene debate at Qualcomm Ventures to invest in Zoom and back Eric S. Yuan (he / him / his). In the spirit of "The Venture Mindset", the best venture deals are the most polarizing and hotly debated ones. Ilya and Alex do a phenomenal job of telling the story how Sachin Deshpande, Nagraj Kashyap and I invested in Zoom through the QCV Early Stage Fund. Ilya aptly describes it as a "backdoor way to pursue an unorthodox deal". Additional hat-tip to Houman Haghighi for his work on the deal.
The Counterpart Ventures team pre-ordered many copies and you should too! I lugged several across the pond so we could hand out these goodies at our London #Counter Event later this week! cc Joe Saijo, Mikey Kailis, Tanvi Narain, Abbie Wolf
"Hey look kids, there's Big Ben, and there's Parliament... again." #ClarkGriswald We are taking #Counter on the road and across the pond to London! Yes ManCity/ManU derby FA Cup next weekend, but this cheeky Counterpart Ventures event is first!
Look forward to meeting our European friends + members of our Counter Club, the largest CVC community in the world. Please DM if you are Europe-based CVC and want to attend. We are at capacity but can make room for additional friends :) CC: Mikey Kailis Charlie Walker, Mark Gallagher, Richard Bull, Shehzad Huda, J.D., M.S.
For context: 5 years ago, Counterpart Ventures made a bet on the CVC community. This is different given: FRESH approach: Led by former practitioners of CVCs. REAL talk: No party line. Talk about both the challenges and opportunities. CURATED content: An invite-only summit just for CVCs hosted by Counterpart Ventures.
