Pattie Maes

Professor at MIT

Pattie Maes is the Alexander W. Dreyfoos (1954) Professor in MIT's Program in Media Arts and Sciences and associate head of the Program in Media Arts and Sciences. With expertise in human-computer interaction and artificial intelligence, she founded and directs the Media Lab's Fluid Interfaces research group, having previously led the Software Agents group. Maes holds a bachelor's and PhD degrees in computer science from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium. Beyond academia, she is a prolific editor and reviewer for professional journals and conferences, and has received prestigious accolades such as being named one of the 50 most influential designers by FastCompany and receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Massachusetts Interactive Media Council.
