The difference between network monitoring and network assurance can be shown on yesterday’s Facebook outage. Monitoring systems were showing that the service was down, same thing that everyone could see with their eyes. But the issue was caused by a network change that wasn't properly caught in staging, because Facebook is missing Network Assurance in their CI/CD pipeline. Facebook engineering reported: "..configuration changes on the backbone routers ... had a cascading effect on the way our data centers communicate, bringing our services to a halt." https://lnkd.in/dqpJMJx8
Network assurance would have prevented the outage altogether, because it can ensure that all services are fully functional end to end in staging, before the change is applied in production, and then verify the change in production immediately after it's applied. Network Assurance is a core deep tech problem that is underpinning foundation of the infrastructure and is a key to self-driving networks. #networkassurance #selfdrivingnetworks #intentbasednetworking #facebookdown
