𝗗𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 - 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆!

In researching the top 1% of fastest-growing bootstrapped companies, I learned so much from these fantastic CEO/founders and their executive teams.

Some quotes that came out during my interviews were particularly insightful and truly captured the essence of my book, Scale Up Faster, and its lessons.

Today's quote (lesson) is from Kyle Mitnick, the founder and former CEO of Advertise Purple.

I'll be sharing a few more quotes from Kyle (too many to share here, so you'll have to get the book), but here's today's, which richly captures the essence of why you should bootstrap your growth.

“𝙀𝙭𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙘𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙘𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙞𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙫𝙞𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚."

We've seen this in full view with the hundreds of millions of dollars of investor money that has gone "poof" in the last few years from companies that had not quite figured out their unit economics and learned that their business didn't scale.

So before you begin thinking about raising that growth capital for the next VC round or term loan, ensure you deeply understand your key metrics, including CAC, LTV, sales conversion rates, etc.

Better yet, DON'T raise that round and keep control of your destiny, increase your valuation and net worth, and make decisions for your customers and team members instead of investors.

Keep bootscaling!

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝟭% 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁-𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀...

During my almost three years researching the fastest-growing bootstrapped companies, I interviewed 85 founders, CEOs, and their executive teams.

[Interviewing these people was the best part of my research!]

Over the next few weeks, I'll share some epic wisdom from these extraordinarily ordinary leaders (see what I did there?).

One of my favorite quotes came from Naveen Krishnamurthy is the founder and CEO of RIVA Solutions, Inc.

Naveen said;

"𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙙. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙥𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙙𝙖𝙮."

This is so true, as the best-laid plans can change in a heartbeat.

The companies I spoke with had a remarkable ability to continue rebounding from everything thrown at them.

Resiliency is part of RIVA's culture, and by bootstrapping, they completely controlled their destiny and weren't pushed into making decisions that only favored investors.

RIVA (along with all of the other companies in my research) always kept their sights on their customers and team members.

Do you agree with Naveen's quote?
