Expert creative designer of educational game apps that support blind children’s development of technology skills, for equal access

Phia Damsma is a seasoned Creative and Instructional Designer specializing in developing innovative and engaging eLearning resources for children, particularly focusing on enhancing their access to science and technology skills.

With over two decades of experience in this specialized field, Phia has a strong background in gamifying subjects within the Expanded Core Curriculum, including remote learning environments.

Phia's expertise extends to the development of Audio-Based Coding applications and active involvement as a member of the Sonification World Chat community, where she leverages Sonification technology to make space education more inclusive for visually impaired students.

Phia's educational journey includes a NGPR-A certificate in Public Relations and Communication from the Institute for Social Sciences in Leiden, an MA (Drs.) Cum Laude in Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition from the University of Amsterdam, and ongoing studies towards a Ph.D. in Special Education and Teaching at James Cook University.

Her professional engagements include serving as the Creative Director at Sonokids Australia, as well as previously holding the position of Creative Director and Co-Founder at Sonokids Foundation.

Furthermore, Phia's commitment to advocacy and consultancy is evident through her previous roles as a Member of the South East Queensland Regional Disability Advisory Council at Queensland Government Disability and Community Care Services - Department of Communities and as Director of Kids Public Relations Consultancy at KinderVisie.
